Family Photos {what to wear}

Dressing for a photo session comes easy to some but for many it does not.  We’re in the heart of photographing the most colorful season of the year and I’m offering a few tips for dressing yourself and children for fall family photos.

1.  Shades of Grey and Blues look best with nature’s green, yellow and orange Spring-Fall pallet.  These colors look good on most everyone as well.  Consider adding a complimenting color such as plum, burgundy or mustard to pull everyone together.  Dress the kids in something adorable from one of the MANY fabulous children’s clothing stores in Appleton.  Check out BellyBeans on College Ave for some of our favorites or online stores such as Matilda Jane, Persnickety (all 50% off right now!) and Joyfolie and Nori Shoes for some ridiculously adorable kids shoes.  Kids look great in darling patterned dresses or flannel shirts with cozy fall vests.  It may be easier to find kids outfits first and dress the adults afterwards.  Consider scarves, hair accessories, cute hats and belts for the bigger kids and adults to pull in a pop of color from their outfits.  Here are a few family session that reflect these tips:

2.  If your home decor and clothing pallet are more earthy and neutral, consider keeping your wardrobe the same.  DO NOT WEAR WHITE!  White will wash you out and make you look larger than you really are.  I’d suggest creams and tans instead.

3.  Come in clothes you can play in!  For our family sessions we’ll have you all playing together so please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty and not worry about.  To us the perfect image will be ones that you will smile or laugh at and and remember your children’s laughter from.
