This time of year is so exciting and energizing for us. The winter season is typically a quiet time for us Wisconsinites and as photographers we love to take that time to slow down and regroup. But once it starts to warm up and the earth around us begins to awaken we are pumped to start a fresh year of senior portraits! We have quite a few new ideas for this year along with some brand new faces too ~ we’ll have to do more introductions of everyone as summer rolls in and we’re in the studio together! One of our favorite things about this season is getting outdoors and location scouting to find the perfect spots for your portraits. Of course we love to travel outside the city for sessions if we get the opportunity, but some of our favorite spots are right outside the studio doors in beautiful Downtown Appleton. Living and working in this homey city of ours puts a big smile on our faces each day!

With the end of your school year in sight and summer activities filling up your calendars, we know just how busy life can get. But we hope you’ll make some time to enjoy this beautiful season with us!

We’re taking this post opportunity to chat about the types of senior sessions we offer, specifically our Journey Session. We know everyone views senior portraits and the experience of them differently, which is why we offer several different sessions. But the Journey Session is special, which is exactly how we feel about your senior year. You might not know it now, but this year is BIG! And we want to celebrate that with you!

The Journey Session is offered to a limited number of seniors each year because of the time we dedicate to it with you. It includes a home style consultation working with your wardrobe and accessories. We discuss everything from head to toe outfit choices and how those choices will pair with the locations you’re excited to shoot in. We are happy to travel within 100 miles of our Appleton studio because there are so many beautiful locations that Wisconsin has to offer. Exploring and enjoying the outdoors is a passion of ours, so we always look forward to where our Journey Seniors take us!

One of our favorite features of the Journey Session has to be inviting our hair and makeup artist with us on location. Changing up your look for each outfit is a MUST when you go big! And that’s what your senior year is all about, right? Let’s ‘go big’ together ~ start dreaming about your ideal locations and styles, and let’s chat!

Next up in our little ‘how to’ for your senior photography experience – What to expect at your senior session! We love the Fox Cities Senior Photographer scene, there are so many amazing styles in photography that finding the right one for you shouldn’t be hard. After you have found your match, scheduled your session and read through all of your pre-session information, you might wonder what’s next?

At Kim Thiel Photography, we have a whole team (who you’ll meet along the way) that wants you to relax and look forward to your session! Having your portrait taken is not an everyday occurrence, it’s special and we want you to enjoy every moment of it. A little bit of planning can go a long way to help ease any stresses that might pop up on your session day. From our scheduling and studio team to our hair and makeup team, we all want to set you up with the best experience possible. Planning outfits and accessories before your photo date will ease the ‘what-ifs’ on the day of, but when you arrive at the studio it’s all about you! We talk about the outfit choices you brought along and decide on locations that will highlight them (and you!) the best. We discuss hair and makeup styles that will lend themselves well to the whole session. And most importantly, we get to know you! We want your character to shine through your images ~ after all, this is a once in a lifetime experience!
