The Beauty of Photography {Boudoir}

Photography is a powerful medium to work in.  To many it captures and preserves memories of life’s milestones.  But there is another side of photography not commonly thought of in our area.  Boudoir.  To me boudoir photography is about confidence and feeling beautiful.  It’s about creating images that make you love yourself just the way you are.

I was recently given the opportunity to photograph two very beautiful women in a quite intimate environment.  When I pulled out my camera for the first time to capture one of the most personal photo sessions I had ever done I can honestly say that me being nervous was an understatement!  I quickly threw the nerves aside as we all started to get into it.  We laughed and had so much fun with it and as I peeked at the images I was capturing I thought ‘WOW! Every woman should do this if not for their lover definitely for themselves.’  So ladies, if you need a reason to feel beautiful and give yourself a boost in life I sincerely suggest you consider finding a photographer you’re comfortable with and giving boudoir your all!

A Wedding and a Wagon Ride

Fall is a magical time of year to us–the crisp calm air and nature’s color palette set the the perfect stage for Michelle and James’ outdoor wedding at Homestead Meadows. Michelle’s attention to detail was such a delight–bold autumn colors mixed with handmade organic inspired decorations was cheerful yet elegant.  Homestead Meadows, located in Appleton, WI, was an ideal location for this couple. They wanted a venue where their families would feel at home and where children felt welcomed and free to roam. The location was ideal and thus the day flowed seamlessly.  From the tree canopied outdoor wedding ceremony to the beautifully renovated  barns offering a cozy spot to converse and dine coupled with a beautifully restored vintage tractor giving enchanting wagon rides–how perfect!

Better Wedding Reception Slide Shows

So the wedding reception slide show has become commonplace and we’ve seen enough to point some things out to make yours more entertaining for your guests.

  1. Make sure everyone can see the screen.
  2. Make sure everyone can hear the audio (no your friend’s ipod hooked up to computer speakers won’t cut it).  Have your DJ help!
  3. Limit the time of the show from 3-5 minutes.  Please do not make your guests sit through more or you’ll see people starting to ignore the show and talk at their tables.  Yeah our attention spans are…onto #4.
  4. Make it entertaining.  20 pictures of the bride and groom doing the same thing at different locations is… well boring.  Be creative and consider a professional to make an awesome show for you (pick me pick me)!  Our same day video edits of your day might get the crowd on the edge of their seats!  Your show should help tell the story of who you were growing up and how you met.  Consider recording some audio of you telling your story to put into the video.  Add in humor that the majority of the room will get (having 3 people laugh at the picture of you doing something only those 3 people know about won’t be funny).
  5. If you can’t pull the above off then consider having a video show in the bar area on repeat that guests can watch at their leisure and skip showing one during your reception dinner.

So some of these points may make you say ‘duh’ but really many of these points get missed at a lot of weddings we attend.  Your wedding reception slide show can be a hit if you take a little time to think about it.  Follow these tips and you are well on your way!
