For me, photographing your wedding is so much more than showing up on your day and taking photos. I want to meet you. I want to know why you love the person next to you so darn much. I want to see how he makes you smile and how you hold his hand. I want to see him blush when you whisper in his ear.

This is what Abby had to say about their experience:
“Making time for the LoveSession was not exactly easy for Chris and I. We are currently seniors at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, we planned on making the trip to Appleton in the fall. Then, Chris broke his collar bone mountain biking so with his arm in a sling for who knows how long, that date was out! We then set on December when we would be home for winter break. Kim was so great about helping us find a time to schedule the LoveSession and now I can honestly say that it’s worth it no matter what you have to do to have the LoveSession. At first Chris and I felt a little awkward having our pictures taken because we never realized the intimacy these pictures would capture. Kim was amazing at making us feel comfortable and open to expressing our emotions which was a lot of laughing at ourselves! Kim was so great about explaining a little about photography and positioning our bodies, all in terms we could understand. I was always excited to have Kim as our photographer, but after the LoveSession I truly feel like she will be a calming person on the wedding day and I could not be more confident she will capture the day with all the joy, laughter, tears and love.”

All of this is what makes my job so enjoyable. I include a LoveSession in every wedding package because getting to know who you are as a couple is how I’m able to understand your love and what my true purpose will be on your wedding day. Every couple is different; every photographer is different; and when you match yourselves up with a photographer that truly gets who you are and what love is all about there’s a little magic that happens.

I will always remember Abby and Chris’ studio proofing session. Abby sat on the couch jaw-dropped almost the entire session because she couldn’t believe her eyes. “I can’t believe that’s ME!” is what she said in disbelief. After a little laughter and conversation I learned that Abby is a sweats & t-shirt kind of girl. She’s in school, studies a lot and has little time or need to beautify on a daily basis. This is why I love being a photographer so much. I love making people feel beautiful and giving them the confidence they need to be in front of my camera.

So, when your photographer offers an engagement session to you take them up on it. Feel beautiful. Get your hair and makeup done. Go shopping together and get an outfit you feel beautiful. It’s a big deal and you may discover once again just how much you love the person you’re with.
